You should mention
How old you were
Why it is your favourite Xmas
Who you spent it with
This is an easy question for me to answer because I have a very strong memory of my favourite Xmas. I was about eleven years old and of course I was living at home with my Mum, Dad and younger Sister. I should explain that this particular Xmas was in two halves. That is some of the time was spent at home and some of the time was spent with relatives. The relatives lived in London so it was like a bit of an adventure really. Plus they were my favourite relatives, which made it all the better and of course it meant extra gifts, all good news then. We arrived at London on Xmas Eve in the afternoon. It gave us time to settle in and get ready for the party that was starting at 7 o’clock. Everyone I knew and was going to be there and even a few people I didn’t know turned up. I remember that everybody enjoyed themselves and that most of the men drank too much and ended up asleep on the floor.
Being that it was Xmas Eve and of course the night of the party I was allowed to stay up late. But I can remember that I really wanted to go to bed because I knew that when I got up it was going to be Xmas Day and time for me to open my presents.
Well I was not disappointed with Xmas morning. I had so many presents and from so many people and best of all I got something that I really wasn’t expecting, an Electric Train Set. How I had longed for a train set and now I finally had one. Of course as soon as my Uncles saw what I had they took it off me, set it up and started to play with it. I remember complaining to my Mother and I can also remember what she said to me. She said that the bigger the man the bigger the kid and that when I got older I would understand. Well she was right I do understand now I’m older but I didn’t at the time.
Ok now to why it was my favourite Xmas. On our way home my parents told me that they could not take all of my presents to London because they simply did not have enough room in the car. So obviously there were presents at home waiting to be unwrapped. I could not believe my ears and you can imagine the drive home now felt like it was taking forever. As soon as we got home I rushed in to get my presents I didn’t even give my parents time to unload the car. Then it happened the biggest Xmas surprise I have ever had. They had bought me a Scalextric Racing Set. Can you imagine that, a Train Set and a Scalextric Racing Set for one Xmas, unbelievable.
